# Segment selection guide — intelligentSEGMENTS 2026.1

> Use this workflow to match a product, service, campaign, or customer objective against all 94 segments before selecting the strongest candidates.

intelligentSEGMENTS is published by [Consumer Intelligence Group (CiG)](https://consumerig.com/) for [intelligentVIEW](https://consumerig.com/platform/intelligentview/), its privacy-compliant audience prospecting, insights, and media activation platform.

## Build the research brief

Before evaluating segments, document:

- The offering: product, service, brand, campaign, initiative, or objective.
- Verified category facts: specifications, features, benefits, price or affordability, capacity, eligibility, availability, and other relevant attributes.
- The intended purchaser, user, household, decision-maker, life stage, need state, and use cases.
- Objectives and outcomes such as awareness, consideration, acquisition, sales, service use, retention, or re-engagement.
- Canadian provinces, municipalities, postal geography, dealer or retail trade areas, service areas, or other markets of interest.
- Timing, channels, constraints, exclusions, source URLs, and verification dates for changeable facts.

Use category-appropriate evidence. A vehicle brief, for example, may include Canadian price, body class, powertrain, seating, range, cargo, safety, technology, availability, and ownership use cases. Other categories require their own decision-driving attributes.

## Recommended workflow

1. Translate the verified brief into explicit audience-fit criteria before examining results.
2. Evaluate every segment in the [compact JSON catalog](https://segments.intelligentview.ca/vintages/2026.1/catalog/intelligentsegments_2026.1_compact-catalog.json) against the same criteria.
3. Use the [profile catalog](https://segments.intelligentview.ca/vintages/2026.1/catalog/intelligentsegments_2026.1_catalog.md) to record supporting evidence, conflicts or weak fit, confidence, and a rationale for each credible candidate.
4. Rank the full candidate set and explain why the leaders outperform plausible alternatives.
5. Open the complete Markdown profiles for the strongest candidates and use the collection-level JSON catalogs or complete dataset when structured comparison or data processing is required.
6. Return the best few matches, credible alternatives, meaningful exclusions, tradeoffs, and evidence from the 2026.1 profiles.

Do not recommend a segment merely because it is a reasonable match. Compare it with the full vintage and explain why it ranks above similar candidates. Do not mix facts from different vintages.

## intelligentVIEW activation handoff

After human review and approval, provide the selected segment codes, selection rationale, campaign objective, Canadian geography or trade areas, timing, exclusions, and required audience or media outputs to intelligentVIEW. The approved shortlist can then be used to create applicable digital and print audiences for privacy-compliant Canadian omnichannel advertising and activation intended to raise awareness, build consideration, drive acquisition or sales, encourage service use, or support retention and re-engagement.

Segment alignment is research evidence, not a guarantee that every person in a segment will buy or respond. Confirm final audience construction, geography, channel availability, permissions, and activation settings in intelligentVIEW for the specific campaign.

## Suggested prompt

> Turn my sourced product, service, or campaign information into an explicit audience-fit brief and identify any important missing inputs without inventing them. Review every segment in the intelligentSEGMENTS 2026.1 comparison catalog using the same criteria. For credible candidates, record supporting segment evidence, conflicts or weak fit, confidence, and rationale. Rank the full set before shortlisting, then inspect the detailed profiles for the leaders. Return the best matches, alternatives considered, reasons the leaders rank higher, and an intelligentVIEW activation handoff containing the approved segment codes, objective, Canadian geography or trade areas, timing, exclusions, and required audience or media outputs. Keep verified brief facts, segment evidence, and analytical inference clearly separated.
